On April 19, 2024, our team participating in the 9th Lower Silesian Historical Debate Tournament achieved a spectacular victory. It was a remarkable event that brought together school teams from across the region to engage in intense historical debates.
Our team, consisting of Sarah Bazgan, Kalina Jabłonkowska, Miłosz Michałowski, and myself, faced off against teams from other schools. Over the course of four rounds filled with emotions and intense discussions, our determination and knowledge led us to victory.
We ultimately won the tournament and will represent Lower Silesia in the grand final in Warsaw! This is a great honor for our team and our school.
I would also like to express gratitude to our teacher mentors, Ms. Inga Leśniewska-Orlicka and Mr. Kamil Burczyński, who not only supported us but were also invaluable sources of knowledge and inspiration. Their dedication was key to our success.
We also want to thank Mr. Wiktor Figiel, our team coordinator, who helped us prepare for the tournament.
Here are the topics we debated:
- "On June 4, 1989, communism ended in Poland."
- "The decision to arrest opposition leaders in the summer of 1930 was one of Józef Piłsudski's biggest political mistakes."
- "The decisions of ORP 'Orzeł' captain, Sub-Lieutenant Commander Henryk Kłoczkowski, in September 1939 were an act of treason."
- "Poland's borders after regaining independence were the result of military actions after 1918, not diplomatic efforts."
We are proud of our achievement and excited about the opportunity to represent Lower Silesia in the final in Warsaw. This is a huge challenge for us but also an extraordinary opportunity to learn and further develop our debating skills. We thank everyone who has supported us on this journey!
We're heading to the national stage in Warsaw!
