My recent participation at the EISMUN conference in Krakow was nothing short of intense. Representing Israel in the Security Council, the discussions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict were as challenging as they were enlightening.
The conference, held from February 23 to February 25, 2024, gathered delegates from various countries to deliberate on pressing global issues. The topic at hand—finding sustainable solutions for lasting peace and security in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict—was both timely and complex.
Throughout the conference, I staunchly advocated for Israel's interests, emphasizing the need for tangible actions to combat terrorism while safeguarding Israel's sovereignty. The operation against Hamas, a terrorist organization responsible for countless attacks targeting Israeli civilians, underscored the urgency of our mission. I reiterated Israel's commitment to defending itself against such ruthless acts of terrorism.
During my speech against the resolution presented in the Security Council, I made it clear that Israel could not accept a solution that jeopardized its security or compromised its principles. We were unwilling to acquiesce to terms that threatened our nation's safety. Moreover, I emphasized Israel's decision to withdraw from the proposed hostage deal, a precondition for the resolution's implementation.
The resolution itself, sponsored by the United States, the People's Republic of China, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, sought to address varioues aspects of the conflict. It called for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, humanitarian aid deliveries, and future negotiations for a two-state solution. While some points aligned with Israel's objectives, others raised significant concerns regarding our security and sovereignty.
Throughout the deliberations, tensions ran high as differing viewpoints clashed. Yet, amidst the heated debates and impassioned speeches, there emerged a shared commitment to finding a viable path towards peace and stability in the region.
As the conference concluded, it became evident that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remained as complex and multifaceted as ever. However, the discussions at EISMUN served as a reminder of the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and unwavering determination in seeking solutions to one of the world's most enduring conflicts.
In the end, while the resolution passed, the journey towards lasting peace and security in the Middle East continues. And as a delegate representing Israel, I am more committed than ever to contributing to that noble pursuit.
